Steven D. Cahn is a partner in the law firm of Cahn & Parra in Edison, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers College in 1983 and the Delaware Law School of Widener University in 1986. After graduation Mr. Cahn served as a Captain and Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps. He has been certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney since 1996 and is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an elite group of lawyers that have been recognized for their zealous and effective representation of their clients in significant personal injury matters and have won a jury verdict of more than $1 million dollars.

While serving in the Marine Corps, Mr. Cahn gained valuable trial experience representing both the prosecution and the defense. As a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, Steve also spent time deployed overseas when he served as a Commanding Officer of Troops and as a staff judge advocate on The USS Inchon and with NATO in Europe. During his time in the Marine Corps, Mr. Cahn tried several noteworthy cases, including United States v. Clyde, a case that involved the death of a young Marine in training which received tremendous national press coverage, as well as securing a conviction in one of the first sexual harassment case prosecuted by the Marine Corps. United States v. Jordan. The Marine Corps awarded Mr. Cahn the Navy Achievement Medal for his work as trial counsel at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

As a trial attorney Mr. Cahn has successfully represented well over a thousand clients during his career. He has been involved in various complex employment and personal injury cases including multi-party and class action litigation in both State and Federal Court. Throughout his career he has settled several multimillion and million-dollar cases, including some of the largest confidential employment law settlements in New Jersey. Mr. Cahn has been an active litigator over the past thirty-five plus years and has successfully tried more than one hundred cases to verdict including the following cases.

Hernandez v. Ford Motor Co, a complex products liability case resulting in a $15 million dollar jury verdict against Ford Motor Co.
Cahill v. Township of Woodbridge, a $1.35 million dollar jury verdict in a motor vehicle, roadway safety case.
Onuoha v. Roche Molecular Systems, a $1,092,000 jury verdict against Roche Molecular Systems in an employment discrimination trial.
Brodsky v. Robert Wood Johnson, a $750,000 jury verdict in a medical malpractice trial.
Prefach v. Franklin Care, a $1.7 million jury verdict in an age discrimination trial that included $1,200,000 in punitive damages.
Deter v. New Jersey Turnpike Authority, A $1,120,000 jury verdict including $500,000.00 in punitive damages.
Scott v. Pompei, a $955,000 jury verdict in a motor vehicle accident trial.
Garcia v. Apgar Trucking, a $700,000 jury verdict in a whistle-blower trial that included $200,000 in punitive damages.
Farparan v. AutoZone, a $228,000 jury verdict in a failure to accommodate a disability trial including $30,000 in punitive damages.
Reilly v. Garden Homes Management Corporation, a $235,000 jury verdict in a whistleblower case.
Plagianos v. Bel Air Partners LLC, A $65,000 jury verdict in a disability discrimination/failure to accommodate trial.
Marino v. Edison Township Board of Education, A confidential settlement was reached in this disability discrimination trial after $100,000 jury verdict during punitive damage phase.

Perhaps his most important and difficult case was his firms’ successful pro bono representation of more than thirty homeowners in litigation against Texas Eastern Pipeline Co. The case was tried by Mr. Cahn and his partner Wendy Wiebalk in the Federal District Court. This was an eight-year battle the law firm took on without compensation to prevent Texas Eastern from removing fifty-five shade trees along a residential road in Piscataway, New Jersey. Township of Piscataway, et al. vs. Duke Energy Civil Action No. 01-CV4828. This case, which twice went to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, was ultimately successfully when tried before a jury in the Federal District Court, and a permanent injunction was ordered prohibiting the removal of the street trees which still remain today.

In addition to his employment law and personal injury practice, Mr. Cahn also has extensive experience representing government entities. He presently serves as the attorney for the Middlesex County Planning Board and has represented the Piscataway Township Board of Education, as well as the Franklin Township Housing Authority. Mr. Cahn also participates in the Police Officer’s Defense Protection Plan and has defended several police civil rights cases.
Mr. Cahn is also actively involved in public service. He resides in Piscataway, where he served as a Piscataway Township Councilman for twenty-two years. In 2009, the Governor appointed Mr. Cahn to the New Jersey Council on Sports and Physical Fitness.

He is a graduate of the Middlesex County Fire Academy and a volunteer firefighter with the Possumtown Fire Company in Piscataway, New Jersey. Throughout the years, he has been active in a host of community groups including Piscataway Soccer Club, Piscataway Little League, the Piscataway Township Youth Committee, and the Parkside Academic Achievement Program, Inc., and the Piscataway Township Community Center. In 2014, Steve was honored by his home town when he was inducted into the J.P. Stevens High Schol Hall of Honor for his military service and his work in the community. In 2023, he was honored by being inducted into the New Jersey Elected Officials Hall of Fame for his service to his community.

Mr. Cahn primarily practices civil litigation and has spent more than thirty-five years developing his expertise in trial practice. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey as well as before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Military Justice, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ), formerly ATLA, the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association, and the Employment Lawyers Association of New Jersey. He has served as a court appointed arbitrator and bar panelist for the New Jersey Superior Court. He has lectured extensively for The New Jersy Institute of Continuing Legal Education and The New Jersey Association of Justice (NJAJ) and has been published in the areas of trial advocacy, employment law, personal injury, and technology in the court room.

In 2022, Steve published his first book, Sid Gordon, An American Baseball Story, which was a top selling baseball history book on Amazon.
